Felipe Perez-Marti

Dr Felipe is a world renowned economist and free software activist from Venezuela. During his tenure as Minister of Planning and Development of Venezuela, he promoted the free software movement in the Venezuela government. Under his leadership, the free software movement in Venezuela was able to convince the Venezuela government to promote free software in a big way. Venezuela became the first country to mandate free software in public sector institutions in the country. Currently he works as Professor of Economics, IESA, Venezuela.

Sen. Fiorello Cortiana

Sen. Cortina is member of Italian Parliament. He is a member of Italian Parliamentary representation for World Summit on Information Society. Sen. Cortiana is actively involved in Information Technology related policy debates. He is a supporter of free software movement and movements against software patents.

Antonio Albuquerque

Antonio is free software supporter from Ministry of Communication, Brazil. As head of GESAC program, he manages digital inclusion program of Brazil Government, covering around 3,200 communities in Brazil. These community centres are running with free software.

Juan Carlos Gentile

Musician turned free software activist, Juan is involved with various community initiatives like Red Escolar GNU/Linux. Juan plays an important role in linking free software activist groups across Latin America. He is one of the founding members of Hipatia, an international organisation working to promote Free Software and Free Knowledge. In the field of music, his focus is on electronic music production.

Marco Ciurcina

Italian lawyer, admitted to the bar in 1994. He has gained considerable experience especially in the field of commercial and Italian and international contractual law.

Since 1994 he has been working in the field of Information Technology law, Copyright, Patent and Trademark law. Course Administrator of the Master Program in IP jointly organized by the University of Turin and WIPO Academy. He is a member of Hipatia. and is actively committed to the free software and free knowledge movements.

Anand Babu

Famous free software hacker from India, Anand led the engineering team of California Digital that designed and built the then world’s second fastest super computer (code named “Thunder”) using free software in June 2004. He has made contributions to various free software projects like GNU/Hurd and the Linux kernel.

Ramanraj K

Ramanraj is practising in the High Court Madras, since 1990, and is the developer and maintainer of the Calpp Project. He is a member of FSF India, Director Board , and also acts as one of its pro bono counsel. He will speak about the big issues facing the free software community in India and the world at large.

Dr G Nagarjuan

Dr G Nagarjuan is a researcher working in Homi Bhabha Center for Science Education. He is involved in studies relating to nature of knowledge (epistemology, knowledge organization, biological roots of cognition, and education), nature of life and evolution. As the President of Free Software Foundation of India, Nagarjuna is working to promote free software and free knowledge movement in India. Title of his speech for the conference is “Towards Gnowledge Manifesto: Need to Modify the Social, Economic, and Cultural Foundations of Knowledge Dynamics”

Hugo Segura

Hugo will be representing PDVSA, Venezuela oil company, in this conference. Hugo plays an important role in PDVSA’s migration to free software. One of the world largest enterprise migration to free software. Hugo will be talking about their experience in migration and the roadmap.

Jose Parrella

Jose is coming to India as representative of SAPI, Venezuela’s office for Patents and Copyright. SAPI is putting before us a new model for handling patents and copyright. Jose will talk about their experiences in building free society, through free knowledge.

Kai Chen

Kai Chen is graduated from The Simón Bolivar University. in Computing Engineering and holds a Master’s Degree in Management of Telecommunications in National Telecommunications Institute EVRY, France. He has been working in several projects in telecommunications with cover to national level as much in the technical area as in economic aspects and ofplanning. It´s Member of the center of excellence for America of the International Telecomunications Union (UIT). Kai Chen will be discussing with us his experiences in establishing community telecenters in Venezuela. He is representing CONATEL.
